Joe Kendall, Broker Associate with Sandals Realty writes, When the real estate market in southwest Florida started in downward swing in 2006 I knew I had to find a better way to find business on the web as active buyers and sellers that could sell was going to get thinner and thinner.

In 2006 I went out and bought the book "blogging for dummies" and started a Real estate blog. Then I studied the "Social Networking Concept"
I have to admit was not a writer in school and I wasn't very good in English, but I knew from everything I have studied, I needed to be able to be a marketing company for my product which is real estate. You see I look at my business as a Internet marketing company with a focus in technology and service and my product is real estate.
My interest grew from having one blog to having 3 blogs, many several social networking sites and continue everyday toward reaching out to possible clients or someones friends. Focusing on collecting people as followers on Twitter or Friends on Facebook. My Marketing success has been the driving force in selling real estate in the last 5 years in one of the toughest Real estate market in the country southwest Florida.
The last two years have been some of my best years in a 12 year career in real estate. Today I manage a real estate office, sell and list real estate with Home Buyers and Sellers. I teach Social Marketing and Blogging/ Networking to Realtors and local business and the future is wide open ! My mind set is simple, what you give in helping local business you will get in return. Sharing the experiences is always good thing and I believe you will always get rewarded by the quality I give out, indirectly comes back to me in many forms. The quality I will receive in return has been well worth the effort and in most parts I have been correct 90% of the time.
It realy dose not matter what's your Business ! You need to market online as a daily dairy of your skills and ability and make that connection with people no matter where they live or what they do and you will gain business.
My simple suggestion is engage, interact, make friends and be socialable ! Share your experiences and don't push the sales person to much and let your links, pictures and thoughts attract people to you and you will be successful.
I wish you the very best in your personal adventures in Social Media and Blogging. The local television stations are now competing for your social time and I bet your friends on Facebook, your followers on Twitter and your connections on Linked-in just to name a few are winning that battle !
This blog was written in the idea of helping people understand the power of Social Media and Blogging !
I look forward to meeting, greeting and being social-able with you in the near future.
Best regards

Joe, awesome post. I guess I gotta keep blogging to get through the dip I'm experiencing. Thanks for the encouragement.
Hi Joe - great post and you are absolutely right. Social media is a continual way to interact with many people. And I agree that all businesses should be on-line.
Great post Joe. You're absolutely right in that we ALL need to do something different - anything different - because the business landscape is constantly changing.
Joe,
It is good to hear your story and congratulations on your success. I'm just starting out with social networking and am basically starting with active rain. My problem is that i was out of the business for a few years and now am starting back at 60 years old and the tech terms are driving me crazy. i have to figure out what the heck the words mean before i can try and utilize them. Hearing your story is a great inspiration, although i don't know if i have 5 years left in me to learn it all.
Joe - great post and awesome advice. I know many Realtors without a website, never mind the new social media networks.
Hi Joe,
This post is very inspiring to me. I have recently gotten serious about Active Rain and joined publicly. I am excited about blogging, but have reservations about how much this type of marketing can really help me. I appreciate your advice!
Hi Joe. I was enrolled in Advanced Placement English while in high school. I still suck at writing. However customers who contact me like my experience and candor. I am okay with that :)
Joe, absolutely great advice. The agents in my office have joined AR, but only one (besides me) has written a post out of 18....Soial media we need it today!!
Great post! As a new agent, it is good to know I am on the right path!
Way to go for starting a blog in 2006! I just started blogging this year, but am already starting to see the benefits, wish I would have started earlier!
I agree this is a great post. I am going to buy the blogging for Dummies book. Thank you for sharing your success and letting us see this is all worth it. THis is my summer of setting up the social media, so the timing is perfect!
This is good advice.
I love your background photo. That's inspirational that this has worked so well for you.
I've discovered the power of blogging and social networking over the past two years. They've made a huge difference in my business.
Joe,
Excellent post, so true and well said. Wishing you continued success and all the best.
Hi Joe -- The whole sociable thing is the consistent thread that binds everything...
Hello Everyone,
I just like to say thanks for reading my post. I hope it's helpful in getting you going toward "Raising the Bar" on your marketing ! It's like anything else in life you only get out of it , as what you put into it and before you know it, it then becomes second nature, and a daily routine in your life.
Let it be something you enjoy, not work that has to be done or your success will be limited.
P.S. I am always interested in your client referrals to southwest Florida. Almost forgot to ask You ! :)
Best regards
Joe
You did it right Joe, Congrats
